We humans are complex, with many conscious and unconscious layers or “selves” within us.  In the spiritual direction relationship various aspects of both director and directee can come to the fore, affecting the direction relationship both positively and negatively.

Understanding some of the “selves” which are activated in our work as directors in response to directees can lessen the chance of overreacting to them and lead to a richer understanding of and sensitivity to the communication taking place in the sacred space that is spiritual direction.

The first two meetings of the group will focus on input from Roberto Assagioli’s concept of sub personalities.  The remaining sessions will be devoted to presentations by group members of their work with directees.  Hour One will be taken up with group feedback to the presenter.  Hour Two will concentrate on exploring the self-aspect/s evoked in the session just presented.

Ideally, presenters will bring a recording of a direction session and a transcript of a portion of the conversation on which they wish to focus.  If that is not possible, they are asked to furnish process notes.  All presenters will share their reflections and questions that arise about the session.

Wednesdays, January 13, 27; February 10, 24; March 10, 24; April 14, 28, 2010
6:30—8:30 PM  $270
